While it might be a bit premature to call him up for next season after being drafted, the way he’s playing right now, he deserves the opportunity.
He started at the rookie level right after being drafted and is currently at Double-A. In 112 career minor league games, he’s batting .331 with a .460 on-base percentage and .516 slugging percentage.
He started this season in Single-A and quickly moved up through high Single-A to Double-A.
In 21 games at Double-A, he is batting .356 with a .412 on-base percentage, .563 slugging percentage, three home runs and 12 RBIs.
He also played in the Futures Game in July.
In the major leagues, it’s not uncommon to see top prospects called up from Double-A straight to the majors without any Triple-A experience.
The problem is that Baltimore doesn’t have an open spot right now. The New York Post reports that the Orioles already have plenty of prospects in the infield, which could hinder his call-up.
