Angels general manager “We have 73 wins, there are many holes to fill.”

Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian shared his thoughts on adding more power.

“We’re a 73-win team,” Minasian told reporters at the Major League Baseball General Managers’ meetings at a resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Monday (April 8). We’ve got a lot of holes to fill,” Minasian said about the direction of the organization’s offense.

The Angels won just 73 games in 2023. Mike Trout missed most of the second half of the season with an injury, and the Angels held on to their last hope with an aggressive offseason additions before the transfer window closed, but an injury to Ohtani derailed that effort.굿모닝토토

The biggest question is whether the Angels will re-sign Ohtani, a two-hitter who is set to hit free agency.

Minasian was cautious about mentioning Ohtani’s name, saying that while he is a “great player,” he is “not going to comment on specific players and contracts.”

“We’re not going to focus on any one player. We’re looking at Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, Plan D,” he said, adding that they have multiple plans in place.

“The owner is only thinking about winning,” he said, adding, “73 wins is not enough. We need to win more. There are a lot of players on the market who can help the team. We will analyze each of them and see if they fit the team and where they can improve. We’re going to look at different ways to improve the team, whether it’s impact players, mid-level players, or players to add to the roster,” he said, signaling an aggressive approach.

He went on to say that the Angels are “a place where players want to play, with a thick fan base”. “The players that have been here so far have all had a positive experience. Our team is a great place to play. I think there’s an opportunity for anyone in the market,” he said.

For the Angels to rack up more wins, they’ll need their existing players to perform well. Mike Trout, who was limited to 82 games last season due to injury, is a prime example.

Minasian praised Trout, saying, “There’s no better professional,” and added, “He knows the team wants more from him. He’s been working hard in the offseason and is looking forward to a normal spring training.”

The selection of a new head coach to succeed Phil Nevin is also important to them.

“It’s a big decision, and we’re not going to rush it,” Minassian said, adding that the team will take their time with the hiring process.
